This week we will start the day with maths or literacy so that we can bring you a live phonics lesson at 11 o’clock. Please use the same link you used on Friday to join the phonics and have your whiteboards and pens ready! An adult should be close by for this lesson in case you need a bit of help now and again. See you later!
Rememeber to check back in at 1 o’clock for this afternoon’s activity – today we will be doing some Traditional Tale art 🙂
Maths
Today we are going to be adding by counting on.
You will need :
your Maths No Problem work book 1A
a selection of 20 small objects eg. lego bricks or pasta etc.
your white board and pen to write down the calculations.
Ready, mathematicians? Here we go!
Create a group of 8 using your objects and arrange them like the 8 buns below. Then you are going to add 3 more. Before you start have a think – how can we do this? What is the best way to count on? Should we start at 1? Which is the biggest number? Can we hold a number in our head?
Keep 8 in your head and say the number – then count on 3 more as you add the objects one at a time ‘8... 9… 10…11!’
Now try these by creating a group of objects and then counting on to add the rest. You can also try using a number line to count on.
(Top tip – remember to start with the biggest number!)

12+2=
7+4=
10+3=
2+9=
4+15=
Now have a go at page 119-120 in your work book – Addition and Subtraction within 20. Remember to start counting from the biggest number and try not to start at 1.
Later on today you might like to have a go at this game to practise your addition skills:
https://www.sheppardsoftware.com/math/addition/fruit-splat-game/
Start with level 1 or 2 and challenge yourself with 4 or 5. Remember to count on from the big number. If you start in relaxed mode you could use your fingers, a number line or objects to count on with.
