Good morning, Grayling 1 – we hope you all had a good half term and that everyone is safe and well!

We’re looking forward to seeing you for live maths at 9 o’clock this morning. If you are unable to join us the lessons are outlined below and please keep scrolling down for this week’s art activity – creating a piece of art which you could enter into the Creative Earth competition!

Maths

Telling Time to the Hour

Have a look at the picture below. What do you already know about clocks?

Tell an adult everything you know about clocks. Prompt them with ideas about minute/hour hands, hours, seconds, minutes, morning, afternoon, evening, o’clock and so on. 

Look at the In Focus task below. What time does the clock show?  

My friend said it is 12 o’clock. Is my friend correct? How do we know?

Is it 8 o’clock in the morning or the evening? Look at the picture of Hannah leaving her house for clues.Now let’s look at question 2. What is the same about each hour? What is different?

Now have a go at the Guided Practice below. Remember to look for clues in the pictures. How can we be sure it is in the morning, afternoon or evening?

It’s now time for you to have a go! Please do pages 101 -104 in your Workbook. If you would like a bit of a challenge have a go at the maths challenge too (Just discuss your ideas, no need to write anything down).

Phonics

Apologies that there will be no live session today – please watch Lesson 31 of the Year 1 Spring Term Lessons. We will be learning how the grapheme or can make the ur sound as in work.

Art

Creative Earth Art Competition

Creative Earth is an art competition for people aged 16 and under from across the UK, run by the UN COP26 Climate Change Conference in collaboration with WWF.

As part of the Together for Our Planet Campaign, they are inviting young people to get creative and show global leaders the world they want to live in.

Whether it’s green forests and garden cities, clear skies and wind turbines or oceans teeming with life they would like children to paint, draw or design a piece of art that shows how you’d like our planet to look in the future. The art work must fit within the circle and the colour green must be included. 

The UK is hosting COP26 in Glasgow in November 2021, bringing together world leaders to tackle climate change and ensure a better future for us all. 

The winners will have their artwork displayed at COP26 to show the rest of the world the vision for the future. The closing date is Sunday 28th February. 

You can send an image of the completed artwork to TogetherForOurPlanet@cabinetoffice.gov.uk with the subject title “Creative Earth – <Your Name>”. Please keep the original artwork until the competition winner is announced.
