And just like that… it’s Friday! I hope everyone is well and you’ve had a great week!
This week we finished looking at the story Lila and the Secret of Rain and we retold our own versions of the story using our story maps to help us sequence the different parts. I have been really impressed at how well we have been able to remember and retell the different parts of the story! We have began to move on to looking at information texts (non-chronological reports) and exploring what makes these different from the texts we have looked at before.
In maths we have started to look at length and different measurements including metres (m) and centimetres (cm) and the importance of starting at 0. On Thursday we put on our investigating hats and explored outside looking at the lengths of different things around us. We used different sized rulers and tape measures to help us and discussed which piece of equipment would be best to use. Have a look at some things around you at home and see what measurements you can find out.
We have continued to explore the polar regions and found out some differences between the Arctic and Antarctica, we found out that there are different animals that live in these regions and we were amazed at how cold it gets! We would definitely need a hot water bottle! We have been learning about penguins in particular and we can’t get enough of them! We are looking forward to writing our own reports about them soon.
On Tuesday we enjoyed a virtual visit from Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service. The children enjoyed learning about all of the different jobs that firefighters do and also talked about how to keep safe at home. The children learnt how many smoke alarms houses should have and how often they should be tested.
