It’s been a chilly but sunny week – we hope you had a restful and happy half term break, we have had a great first week back!

Today we have thought about why Bonfire Night and Fireworks are so common in England at this time of year. We have learnt a little bit about Guy Fawkes. Next week we will also be thinking about why people remember others on November 11th with poppies and Remembrance Day and how people may show this in different ways.

It has been really great to hear about the different books and stories we have been reading over half term and I am loving our class enthusiasm towards reading, even Miss Mansell’s dog Mumble has been sharing his love for reading too! Do you have a favourite book you like to read?

In Maths we have been learning how to use the column method when we add numbers together. We have learnt that we can add without renaming (where the numbers we add don’t make an extra 10) such as 25+32 and next week we will begin to explore adding which will involve renaming (such as 17 + 7 or 25+ 26 etc) and using our number bonds to help us! In Literacy we enjoyed finishing off some of our work about Baba Yaga. We thought about noun phrases to describe the witch and the forest where the story is set to help create a wanted poster for the witch Baba Yaga. For example, The mean, scary witch had a long, twisted nose. She lived in the deep, dark forest. Etc.

Next week at Damers we are welcoming Jonathan from Sustrans. Jonathan is coming in as Dr Bike to help give our bikes a free check up. Please see the below picture for details.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, see you all on Monday ready for our class trip to Shire Hall on Tuesday! Miss Mansell
